Quality Care in Residential Rehabilitation

Virginia NeuroCare offers living situations designed exclusively for individuals with acquired brain injury that enables the greatest level of independence and quality of life for each resident.

Transitional Living Program

Residents in the Transitional Living Program (TLP) participate in an intensive community-based residential program that focuses on cognitive rehabilitation and life skill development leading to greater independence. Our Residential Rehabilitation Technicians (RRTs) work closely with lisenced therapists to help residents practice skills learned in the Tranitions or Vocational program, such as grocery shopping, laundry, meal preparation, home management, banking, money management, and medication training.

TLP Admission Guidelines & Eligibility Criteria

  • Can make a 4-12 month commitment
  • Participates in Transitions or Vocational Programs
  • 18 years or older
  • Diagnosis of Acquired Brain Injury
  • Rancho level VI-VIII
  • Drugs and alcohol not permitted
  • Free of suicidal, homicidal, or aggressive behaviors for 90 days
  • Does not require skilled nursing care

Longer-Term Care

Residents live in a community-based program that focuses on simple life skill development, participation in meaningful activities, and enhancing quality of life. Residents are expected to make functional gains in the following areas: hygiene, mealtime management, orientation, recreational pursuits, and developing ties in the community. After completion of this program, individuals may be considered for the Transitional Living Program.

LTC Admission Guidelines & Eligibility Criteria

  • Same as TLP; however, may participate in the Activity Program
  • Can tolerate at least 6 hours of activity each day
  • Duration: up to 12 months
